I love beautiful spring mornings. There is still a slight chill in the air. I take in the brilliant, light blue sky, fresh green grass, and the smell of orange blossoms. My crow friends call out to me for a morning snack. And of course, the lighthearted whinnies (a.k.a., Skye Mama and Luca) are happy I will be serving them warm morning cereal. I am embraced with a sense of serenity and calmness, even after a night of tossing and turning.
This morning when I opened the barn door to prepare breakfast for the horses, Skye Mama popped her head in to greet me. She has a way with her energy field that pulls you into her. This morning was particularly special. She immediately turned her body and pressed her back end to me. It was not to ask for a scratch. Rather, it was a “lean in”: her warm field of energy pulled me in as I rested both hands at the top of her back end. I entered a beautiful stillness with her. My mind had been reeling and racing all night. This was her gift of the Root Chakra. In the “horse world,” typically, a horse that gives you its back end is not the safest position for humans. However, I was separated by a big Dutch door that provides a perfect safety barrier for the bottom of a 1,300-lb. horse to send waves of beautiful red Root Chakra energy through my body. We stood in stillness together as I pressed both of my hands into her back end and allowed my worrying mind to rest. I allowed her to do what she does best: connect us with our divine light. If we are willing and open, Mama will take you where you need to be to feel this kind of love, right where it counts: the Root Chakra.
The Root Chakra sits right at the base of the spine in humans and runs down our legs into our feet. Feeling safe, comfortable, and confident is the energy of the Root Chakra, which creates the foundation for all the chakras that lie above it. In the womb, the spinal cord begins to develop first; it is governed by our animal instinct to survive. From an energy medicine standpoint, this energy center poses the question, “Do I belong here?” and becomes our basis for a sense of stability and security. We associate the Root Chakra with “being grounded,” having our basic needs met, including food, water, and shelter. It also addresses the realms of our emotional needs: feeling safe, secure, and interconnected, and serves as our link between the physical world and our internal energetic systems. It’s where self-esteem, integrity, and a sense of belonging live. The Root Chakra is key to our healing. Imbalances in this center can lead to anxiety, depression, rage, low self-esteem, resentment, poor focus, and a negative outlook. You can see why it’s so important to check in with this chakra on a regular basis. For those who have never felt this type of healing energy, understand that it’s a beautiful gateway to the path of healing and manifesting.
One of my favorite exercises with clients is to ask, “What would you do if you had no fear?” It’s a big and beautiful question, and a wonderful way to tap into stories that we are holding onto. These thoughts energetically impede us from living fearlessly. I think in the stillness of the morning, following a night of tossing and turning, our energy is fresh, and Skye Mama tapped right into that field on this particular morning. She always instinctively knows where to start her energy work. She is a master. She drew me into her energy field with that woosh of motherly love, which is fierce, protective, and steady. It’s a wakeup call to “WTF have you been waiting for, sister?!” I have seen her repeatedly work this energy field with clients.
The truth is, when we drop all the defenses of not feeling “good enough,” we can tap into our brilliant self and set the world on fire. It all starts with deepening our connection with the glorious Root Chakra.
Thank you, Skye Mama, for continuing to awaken the sacredness in this life and our divine purpose. You are truly a gift, and I love you.
