“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
I invite you today to put away your To Do List, Your Wishlist for Self-Improvement, The On-line Courses and books you have purchased to help you get richer, thinner, younger, or more “successful”. Then close the book on your stories of not being good enough and start writing a new story of love and self-compassion. Perhaps a story that showcases both your strengths and your vulnerabilities in difficult times.
The wisdom of the old skin horse in the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams teaches us that we become real through the application and experience of love.
Perhaps, if we move our focus from the external world of judgement and not being enough and move into our heart space – our love space – we can learn to embrace the things that make us unique and real. We can honor our ability to navigate this thing called life, and in that space of acknowledging the beauty of our struggles, we can finally look at them as opportunities to love ourselves even more.
Embrace you – the REAL you.
Love Luca, Skye Mama and Vivian
